Delicious Apple Dumplings
Cameo Culinary Club - Delicious Apple DumplingsAlthough these tangy green treats are plentiful in America, Granny Smith apples actually originated in Australia in 1868. One day Maria Ann "Granny" Smith discovered an odd seedling growing near a creek on her small orchard. Little did she know that this strange seedling would bare the first of a new variety of apple that would eventually take the baking world by storm. Because of their slightly sour flavor, Granny Smith apples are the perfect counterpart for milder flavors like caramel and pastry. This month's recipe—delicious apple dumplings—is without a doubt the perfect fall dessert. Tangy green apples are enveloped by buttery pastry with just a hint of citrus and cinnamon. The carbonated secret to these savory dumplings may be a little unconventional, but after you taste the end result you'll wonder how Julia Child ever got by without Mountain Dew.
